Still poling and taking baby steps.
Well here I am again just came back from my Sunday morning poling walk around
the track. Today I took my time and concentrated on my form and poling technique
without the correct form and technique you are not going to work the core muscles
properly and burn the calories you want. Speaking of calories since I have started
my walking program in March I have lost 2 inches on my waist and 5lbs. my goal for
the summer is 25lbs. I notice also that since I have quit smoking and starting walking
my breathing is becoming more regulated. I am not loosing my breath half way round
the track. I feel I am ready to start working on the second lap. The track I use is divided
into sections with pathways cut in thirds across the track and down the middle sort of
like a oblong pie, anyway this will allow me to add sections to my walk as I go along, I find its easier
to break tasks up into smaller sections. I am also looking very closely at my diet.
My doctor wants me down to 1500 calories a day, for me thata large order because I like to cook and
I like to eat and I have an enormous sweet tooth so again I am breaking the task down into smaller
segments. I already have cut out going down two aisles in the grocerly store they are the pop aisle and
the chip aisle. I am now working on the bakery aisle and the cookie aisle. The cookie aisle is hard because
the cookie shelf is close to the cereal shelf so you have to dig in your heels and just pass it, I am having
some luck but not all the time. There are so many things to think about while you are loosing weight and
trying to eat better. My next project will be adding more vegetables to my diet and I not a vegetable
person at all and this will be one daunting task and again it will be broken down into smaller tasks. One
victory I have had so far that I think notable is that I take sandwiches in my lunch for work. One of my past practices was having potatoe chips with my sandwich, I would brag that “the only time I eat chips is
with a sandwich” , I thought I was so much in control of that situation right. Well now I have changed
that practice and instead of having chips with my sandwich I have sliced green peppers or sliced
cucumbers. That is a great victory for me. When the weather gets nicer I will add my garden to my
routine of healthy living and exercise but for now I will continue with my Urban Pole walking
and getting around the track a second lap, who knows maybe I will do a 5 k walk with my poles by next
summer. Not bad for a lady in her sixties. I really do believe I am part of the new older generation. One
that will keep active and keep working for a long time to come. Talk to you next time Peg.
